Heat Pump Installation
Heat pumps need to be professionally installed. If they are not installed correctly they will not work well.
A heat pump consists of both an indoor and outdoor unit that must be connected together with refrigeration grade copper tubing. This tubing needs to be thermally insulated. The indoor unit requires a drain hose to drain away condensation. A control cable electrically connects the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit is connected to the household power supply.
The final step in a heat pump installation is the evacuation of all the air inside the copper tube using a vacuum pump and the filling of the tubing with refrigerant.
The following factors need to be considered.
- Heat pump is correctly sized for the room.
- Placement of indoor unit taking into consideration aesthetics, thermal factors, airflow.
- Placement of outdoor unit taking into consideration ventilation, acoustics, proximity of power, distance from indoor unit.
